ARTIST NOTES: A vintage map of Warburton was beautiful in and of itself with it's fine detail and delicate contour lines. The earliest township of Warburton (1800s) saw gold mining but this was relatively short lived as the area revealed itself as inhospitable to the miners (flood, drought, fire, unsustainable roads, steep slopes). I wanted to represent this on the map as nature having 'won' over man's endeavours to capitalise on it's hidden treasure. Some discarded gold mining tools lying in the grass with the delicate blue wren alighting on the old pick. The drawing was made 'freehand' directly on the map with black fine liner. The original map was produced in 1974.
This map and drawing have been professionally framed using archival materials.
